Section One: Backing up Your Outlook Email

1. Close Outlook if it is open. Open Outlook and select Use Old Data

2. Select File > Import and Export…

3. Choose Export to a File then click Next

4. Choose Personal Folder File (.pst) then click Next

5. Click on Mailbox – (your name), check Include subfolders, then click Next

6. In the Export Personal Folders window click Browse

7. We are going to save the exported file on your desktop. Click on the Desktop, type in outlookoffline for the filename and then choose Ok

8. Click Finish in the Export Personal Folders window

9. Click Ok in the Create Microsoft Personal Folders window

Depending on the size of your mailbox this will take several minutes.

Section Two: Fixing the Use Temporary Mailbox Prompt

1. Start up Outlook, and Choose Use Temporary Mailbox

2. Click on Tools and then Account Settings

3. In the account settings window click on Microsoft Exchange, and then click Change

4. In the Change E-mail Account window Uncheck Use Cached Exchange Mode and then click on More Settings

5. You will get a prompt that this will not complete until you Exit outlook. Click Ok. We will restart later.

6. In the Microsoft Exchange Window Click Advanced

7. Click on Offline Folder File Settings

8. Click Disable Offline Use

9. Click Yes

10. Click Ok in the Microsoft Exchange window.

11. Click Next in the Change E-mail Account window

12. Click on Finish

13. Click on Close in the Account Settings window

14. Exit Outlook. You can do this by clicking File and then Exit

15. Double Click the Email Icon to Restart Outlook

Now that we have restarted we need to turn on the Cached Exchange mode again.

16. Click on Tools and then Account settings

17. Click on Microsoft Exchange, then click Change

18. In the Change E-mail Account Window. Click to Enable Use Cached Exchange Mode

19. You will be prompted that you need to restart outlook again. Click Ok

20. Choose Finish in the Change E-mail Account window.

21. Choose Close in the Account Settings

22. Exit Outlook. You can do that by clicking File and then Exit

23. Double Click the E-mail icon to restart Outlook.

24. You will see a message that we are Preparing Outlook for first use

25. As you start outlook you will see a notification in the lower right corner that Outlook is updating the inbox

You can use Outlook, however you may notice it takes 10 – 15 minutes to update all of your email depending on your connection.
